These pictures were taken on a day trip in August through the ruins of Pompeii.  Destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii remained a lost city for many years till its rediscovery in 1748.  Today, the recovery efforts at Pompeii continue and the site is a marvelous look back at history.  We were amidst many a day tripper coming off a Disney cruise, but really appreciated having a private guide who spent many hours painstakingly walking the adults and children in our family through the history and significance of the place.
